Esther Koeman ’53 Nelson

Esther Mae Nelson, age 93, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in Richmond, Virginia. She was born April 22, 1931, to Abraham & Jeanetta Koeman in Holland, Michigan. She graduated from Hope College in 1953 and taught elementary school for many years. After living in Wisconsin, she moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1974. She was an avid golfer, bowler, baker, gardener, and had a passion for watching the birds in her yard. She was also a very devoted long-time member of Crestwood Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, joining bible studies, and circle groups. She retired from DuPont to provide full time childcare to her precious grandchildren. She was a very loving caring person who continued to serve and give back to her church and community. She is survived by her 2 children; Nancy Nelson and Marianne (Chris) Weddington; 3 grandchildren, Kevin Nelson, Christina and Nicole Weddington.
