Cynthia Fikse ’50 Romano
Cynthia Romano, beloved wife of 69 years to the late Michael Romano, passed away peacefully at Angel Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 94.
Born in Stickney, SD, she was a daughter of the late Henry Fikse and Emma Timmer. She graduated from Hope College in Holland, MI and was an English Teacher whose long career took her from the Philippine Islands to several states in the U.S. and finally Socastee where she ended her long teaching career. Her devotion to her profession led many a student to personally thank her as they considered her instrumental to their academic success in the years following her interaction with them. She was devoted to her family, church, as a pastor’s wife and teaching. She was a founding member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Surfside Beach.
In addition to her husband Michael and her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Ann Boss and brother Evert Fikse.
Surviving are 2 sons: Stephen Romano and Philip Romano of Myrtle Beach; 1 daughter, Cynthia Wisniewski and her husband Vincent; Grandchildren: Michael, James and John Romano, Valia and Matthew Wisniewski, Ashley Ludman; Great Grandchildren: Roslyn and Gideon Maloney, Libi and Chloe Wisniewski and Caroline Romano and her brother John Fikse.
