Betty Bruins ’64 Daane

Betty Daane, 82, of Waupun, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Betty was born February 20, 1942 in the town of Alto, the daughter of Clayton and Marion Bossenbroek Bruins. Betty attended Waupun High School and graduated in 1960. Betty attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan where she received her bachelor’s degree in education. She then taught school in Racine, WI and later Waupun for 10 years. Betty then continued to substitute teach for many years. On November 2, 1972 she married Larry Daane and they resided in the Waupun and Alto areas their entire lives. Larry and Betty owned the Little Dutch Pantry in Alto for 3 ½ years. She and Larry drove semi cross country together for seven years. Betty was an active member of Alto Reformed Church and taught Sunday School, Bible Class, and was the Education Director. She was also a member of the Women’s Mission Circle and the Education Committee. She and Larry enjoyed their small groups and going on several mission trips. Most of all Betty enjoyed time with her family.

Betty is survived by her husband of 52 years, Larry Daane of Waupun; sons: Steve (Torie) Daane of Neshkoro, Matt (Tracy) McDowell of Waupun; and daughters: Michelle Daane of Minnesota and Angel (Cory) Smit of Brandon; grandchildren: Trevor Daane, Mitch (Merri) Daane, Brant (Taylor) McDowell, Brady McDowell, Kanon Smit, and Rhyer Smit; great-grandchildren: Brooklynn Daane, Zane McDowell, Knox McDowell, and Kaiden Daane; sister, Gail (Dick) Wetzel, brother, Bill (Mary) Bruins, sister, Helene (Ron) Daane; sisters-in-law, MaryAnn (Floyd) Smit and Bonnie Bruins; and nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law; and a brother, Calvin Bruins.
