Matthew Tailford ’97

William Matthews, born William Matthew Tailford, 53, of Valparaiso, passed away unexpectedly due to a cardiac condition on Friday, May 20, 2022. He will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 15 years, Kimberly (Baker) and his two children, Gideon (10) and Amelia (8). He is preceded in death by his father William Tailford. He is survived by his mother Jacquelynn Tailford, sisters Kimberly (James) Cooper and Tammy (Glenn) Luther from Sylvania, Ohio; Kimberly’s parents, Harry and Cheryl Baker of Dyer, Indiana, Kim’s sisters Sheri (Lee) Smith, Traci (David) Noble, as well as numerous adoring nieces and nephews. He is a graduate of Hope College and received his MFA from University of Michigan. He was a loving family man, loyal friend, eloquent writer, craftsman, artist, actor, sculptor, filmmaker, teacher, veteran, athlete. He fought for the hearts of others and loved deeply. He travelled the world, built a film production company, finished the Iron Man, and played hockey. He adored and cherished his children spending endless hours teaching and inspiring them to be gracious, loving and courageous. Most importantly he was to devoted God and to fulfilling God’s purpose. “Well done, good and faithful servant.
