Henrietta Weener ’50 Bruggers

A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 1:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Henrietta W. Bruggers, 92, who died on Monday, April 25, 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Reverend John Cannon, Senior Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Dr. Barry Bruggers (Linda); her daughters, Dr. Karen Bruggers (Dr. Mark Odom), Kathy Moses (Dr. Michael Moses), and Kristy Thompson; her seven grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Bruggers (Issac Winters), Jessica Bruggers, and Joshua Bruggers, Sarah Odom, Cameron Duplantier (Jonte’), Hunter Duplantier (Adrienne), Kody Thompson (Jill); two step grandchildren, Nicholas Moses (Candice) and Pierre Moses (Claiborne); and eight great grandchildren, Cooper and Jack Howard Thompson, Charlie and Henry Duplantier, Oliver, Colin, Josephine, and Eliza Moses; niece, Sherry Osborn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Howard Bruggers; her parents, Egbert and Elsie Schipper Weener; sister, Alyce Osborn.

A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Henrietta attended William Street Christian School and Kalamazoo Central High School. She then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Hope College where she met her husband. Henrietta taught school for several years and then raised her 4 children and was a substitute teacher.

Henrietta enjoyed reading, cooking, needlework, and golf. She volunteered with meals on wheels. She belonged to Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette, where she was active in United Methodist Women. She was also involved with LSU Health Sciences Center Wives club and PTA. She and her husband also loved travel and spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
