Norman Schwab ’68

Norman “Norm” Schwab, 75, of Sanford, passed away Wednesday (03/31/21) at his home.

Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Norman managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his wife and children, who he adored more than anything else in the world.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Paulette; his sister Cathie Morey; children, Scott Schwab, Sharon (Timothy, Sr.) Girardin and Joy (Scott/Soprano) Velasco; grandchildren, Kristleena (Brian) Campbell, Kayla Keller (Michael Ward), Timothy Girardin Jr., Sherry (Logan) Keys, Joseph Velasco, Alexandria Velasco, Tyler Schwab, Riley Schwab and Kaylee Schwab.

Norman was born May 7, 1945, in Mineola, New York, to Norman and Rita Schwab, who preceded him in death. He graduated from W.T. Clarke High School in Westbury, New York, in 1963 and Hope College, in Hope, Michigan, with a bachelor’s degree in 1968. He obtained his master’s degree from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York. Norman taught at West Middle Island Elementary and later at Coram Elementary, both in the Longwood School District in New York for 27 years. Norm was always interested in sitting down to watch a movie or tell stories. His sense of humor will be missed by his family and friends.
