David Lane ’65

David Lane ’65 died March 9, 2018 at Harbor Point in Centerville after a long illness. Born in New Jersey on November 3, 1943, he was the son of Cecile and Norman Lane. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, his Master of Arts from Texas Tech, and his Master of Library Science from Columbia University. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam Era. He worked for 40 years at the library of Columbia’s New York State Psychiatric Institute, retiring as its Director in 2010 and moving to his wife’s home town of Plymouth, Massachusetts. David was athletic all his life. An avid runner, he took to swimming late in life. He is survived by his loving family — his wife of 40 years, Jeanne W. Patenaude Lane of Plymouth, daughter Jennifer Lane, son-in-law Naoki Fujita, grandson James Fujita of New York, brother Richard Lane and sister-in-law Maura, brother Robert and sister-in-law Deborah, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of David’s life will take place on April 21 at 11:00am at the Loring Center of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 384 Court St., Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity or the Frontotemporal Disorders Unit of the Massachusetts General Hospital.
