Anna Tallman ’49 Miedema

Anna Tallman ’49 Miedema, age 90, of St. Anne passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at her home. She was born September 17, 1927, in Wichert, the daughter of John & Christine Blankestyn Tallman. Anna Marie married Elwood Miedema, her devoted husband of 67 years, on August 9, 1950, in Wichert. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2017. Anna Marie was a retired Registered Nurse, who attended Hope College and Presbyterian St. Luke’s School of Nursing. She very much enjoyed the people she helped during her 36 years working as nurse for Dr. G.W.I. Bard. She was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church of Wichert, where she had attended with so many members of her extended family and lifelong friends. Anna Marie was devoted to her family. She is remembered for her humor, her hard work, and her selfless support and encouragement of her children and grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters and two sons-in-laws, Sue & Jeff Smith of Bourbonnais and Jane & Steve Smith of Centerville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Stacy (James) Vlahakis, Scott (Jenny) Smith, Kate Smith, and Jake Smith; three great-grandchildren, Evan, Ian, and Matthew; one brother and sister-in-law Neal (Corinne) Tallman; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ken (Shirley) Miedema, Buryl (Pam) Knisley, and Robert (Jill) Knisley; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Elwood Miedema, Anna Marie is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Vernelle Miedema; and one brother-in-law, Lewis Miedema. Visitation will be held from 57 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2018, at Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home in St. Anne. A visitation will also be held Saturday, February, 24, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the First Reformed Church of Wichert, followed by the 11 a.m. funeral service. Rev. Randy Knoll will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wichert. Memorials may be made to First Reformed Church of Wichert.
