Shannon Laursen ’97

Shannon Laursen ’97 , age 41, wife, mother, daughter, and dear friend, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 10, 2017.

Shannon was a passionate, caring and fun-loving woman that adored her family and friends, and whole-heartedly embraced being a wonderful mother for her three children. Shannon met her college sweetheart, adventure partner and soul mate, Travis Long, in 1993 at Hope College and the two married in 1999. They have three beautiful daughters, four-year-old Vivian, one-year-old twins, Charlotte and Evelyn. Shannon had a fearless spirit that loved adventure, traveling to far-off beaches and mountains, dancing to Justin Timberlake, watching scary movies, and hanging out with friends.

She and Travis traveled far-and-wide to more than 25 states and 15 countries in North America, the Caribbean and Europe. Shannon had a powerful passion for trying new things, including skydiving, scuba diving, roller derby, photography, pottery, painting, mosaic glass and many other artistic endeavors. She was also an animal lover, an avid supporter of the Humane Society of Huron Valley, and shared her home with many foster animals.

Shannon was born April 5, 1975, in Howell, MI, the daughter of Shirley (Noechel) Laursen and the late David Laursen. Shannon graduated from Howell High School in Howell, MI, in 1993, and received a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing from Hope College, and Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Michigan. She worked as a nurse practitioner for the University of Michigan for over nine years, caring for adult and pediatric patients with congenital heart disease.

Shannon is survived by her husband Travis, three daughters, Vivian, Charlotte and Evelyn all of Saline; her mother, Shirley (Noechel) Laursen of Howell, MI. She was preceded in death by her father David Laursen and her uncle Norman Laursen.
