Shannon Dykema ’04 Schamback

Shannon Dykema ’04 Schamback, age 33, went home on March 3, 2017.

Shannon lived a life of abundant generosity–she gave wholly of her time, talents, resources, and heart to her family, friends, and patients. Shannon obtained her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of Michigan in 2014. She worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Lakewood Family Medicine in Holland, MI and deeply adored her colleagues and patients. She proudly declared her faith in Jesus through many mission trips across the United States and internationally, including India and Kenya, in which she witnessed to others using her caring heart, beautiful singing voice, and medical skills and knowledge. She also declared her steadfast belief in her Lord and Savior’s healing powers during her bravely fought battle with leukemia.

Shannon had many passions in addition to her love of Jesus Christ and being a nurse practitioner. She was deeply proud of her role as a mom to Selah, who served as a source of inspiration for Shannon to keep staying strong. Selah often visited Shannon in the hospital and gave her (and everyone else around!) hope, joy, and a smile. Shannon also adored her role as a caring and silly auntie for her many nieces and nephews; she loved them all so much, and always will.

She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Edna Dykema; grandfather, George Meyering; uncle, Gary Meyering and many other loved ones.

She is survived by her husband of 10 years, Justin Schamback and daughter, Selah Schamback (age 21 months); parents, Michael and Mary Dykema; siblings, Mark and Jennifer Dykema; Stephanie Dykema and Benjamin Starett; parents-in-law, Lee and Carolyn Schamback; sisters-in-law, Jodi (Kent) Andrzejewski; Tessa (Vince) Schlatter; Lori Schamback; and many special nieces and nephews, Audrey, Charlotte, Beckett, and Ryker Dykema; Shay, Taya, Jesse Andrzejewski; Parker, Reese, Trey, and Jace Schamback.
