Hank Visscher ’59

Henry Visscher, age 84, of Holland, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022 at his home, surrounded by family, who loved and cared for him. Henry felt deep gratitude for his life, family, friends, and career. He was thankful for the opportunities to enjoy the beauty in this world and the moments to care for others. His gratitude and peace are wonderful blessings for his family and friends.

He was born in Holland to Carl and Della Visscher, was a life-long resident of Holland, and attended Holland schools, Hope College, and Northwestern University. He had a long career in the financial industry, coming to First Michigan Bank in 1968 and remaining there for the rest of his career, and retiring in 1994. He began at FMB in the Trust department in Zeeland and retired as President of FMB Financial group.

Henry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holland, the Zeeland Rotary Club, a long- time member of the Holland Country Club serving as President of the Board of Directors, Holland Elks Club, and the American Legion. He was active in assisting in the Annual Fund Drive for Hope College.

Henry loved golf and tennis, and he captured the first state tennis title for Holland in the boys 15 and under tournament in 1952. He played into adulthood.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; his three sisters: Carla Wierda, Donna Holly, Judy Engle; and brother, Mike Visscher. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cora, his children: Christopher (Michelle) Visscher ’79, Cynthia (Matt Swanson) Visscher, David Wasserman, and Carin (Andy) Ribbens; 9 grandchildren: Jennifer (Todd) Timmer, Bob (Brandon Riley) Murillo, Melissa (Steve) Bayn, Josh (Jenny VanVeen) Ribbens, Gabe Murillo, Megan Soto, Lisa (Doug) Carlton, Marc (Tina) Kaeckmeister, and Jill Moyer; 19 great grandchildren; his brother Carl (Barbara) Visscher; and sisters: Beverly Bolen, Trudy (Joe) Glegola, Sharon Sens, Joan Visscher ’65 (Roy) Cobb, Linda Visscher ’70, and sister-in-law, Judy Visscher.

Cremation will take place and a Memorial Service to celebrate Henry’s life will be held at 11: 00 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Holland. Visitation will be held prior from 10: 00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m., also at the church. Lunch will be served at the church after the service.

In lieu of flowers, it is Henry’s wish that a memorial gift be given to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Ottawa County or Hospice of Holland.
