George Baxter ’70

George William Baxter, IV George (Bud) was born on June 6, 1948, and passed away peacefully on October 16, 2021 at his home in Saginaw, Michigan of kidney failure, at the age of 73. Bud’s interest in science led him to study Chemistry at Hope College, where he achieved his bachelor’s degree in 1970. Following college, he went to work at Universal Oil Products in Illinois for several years. He then came home to work at, and eventually, manage, the Saginaw Publishing Co. and their legal newspaper, The Saginaw Press. He was the 4th Generation of Baxters to carry on the family business, until his retirement, at age 62. Important to Bud, was the local Masonic Lodge, the wilderness of the family property in Northeastern Michigan, his many dogs, and a good laugh! His parents, George W. Baxter, III and Gertrude H. Baxter, his brother Todd H. Baxter and his sister, Susan E. Goodman preceded him in death. Remaining are his sister, Janet Baxter ’72 Atwood, his brother-in-law, Andrew D. Atwood ’70, and nieces nephews: Emily Atwood Zwirek (Jeff), David S. Atwood (Renee), Corey M. Shaw, Lauren E. Shaw, Jesse H. Baxter, Cole C. Baxter, Brett T. Goodman and Bryce A. Goodman, and many grandnephews and grandnieces. Also remaining is his good friend, and long-time companion, Cliff Geiger. Bud’s gentleness and love of nature leaves a legacy in the hearts of those who remain. George will have a private family interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Saginaw, Michigan in the Baxter Plot. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sierra Club would be most welcome, and a lovely way to honor his memory.
