Shirley DeBoer ’50 Sharpe

Shirley A. Sharpe, 91, of Mt. Bethel, PA, formerly of Irvington, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 30th, at Westminster Village at Allentown.

Shirley was born in Detroit, MI on July 6, 1929, a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (DeVriest) DeBoer. She was the wife of the late Rev. John H. Sharpe, Sr., who passed away in 1995.

Shirley was a 1950 graduate of Hope College in Holland, MI. She was employed as an office clerk at the Reformed Church Home in Irvington, NJ, for 15 years until retiring in 1990. Shirley was a volunteer at the former Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg and enjoyed doing word puzzles and watching game shows. Shirley was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Mt. Bethel, PA. She was active in the Presbyterian Women’s Group and also taught Sunday school.

Shirley is survived by three sons Andrew Sharpe, husband of Ethel, of Concord, NH; Richard Sharpe, of West Orange, NJ; and John Sharpe, of West New York, NJ, 6 grandchildren Aaron, Rachel, Timothy, Rebecca, Benjamin, and David, and 7 great-grandchildren Tucker, Roxanne, Cyrus, Zelda, Eleanor, Elias, and Robert.
