Eugene Stoddard ’55

Eugene M. Stoddard, 87, of Hatch Street, Corry, Pa., died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, at Corry Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 5, 1933, in Clymer, N.Y., a son of the late Melvin P. and Bernice S. Bensink Stoddard.

Following his graduation from Corry Area High School in 1950, Gene then went to Hope College. In 1956, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving as a pilot until his Honorable Discharge in 1959. Gene was an English teacher and taught at the Corry Area High School and Brocton Central School. He later became a professor at Edinboro University for 33 years, retiring in 1999. Gene served as Chairman of the English Department at Edinboro for nine years and also served on the Corry School Board for several years.

Gene owned B’s Steakhouse in Corry and then Mr. B’s Steakhouse in Union City. He also co-owned three bars/restaurants in California. He liked to travel and accompanied students abroad on several occasions. Gene enjoyed golfing, bowling and reading in his free time.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Smith.

Gene is survived by two sisters, Sherry Wascak and her husband Paul and Nancie Miller and her husband Marty, all of Columbus, Pa.; and by two brothers, Bernard Stoddard and his wife Mary and Dean Stoddard, all of Corry, Pa.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
