Richard Shattuck ’65

Richard W. Shattuck passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice on October 17, 2018 at the age of 76. Dick was born on June 11, 1942 in Bay City, Michigan.

He was the son of the late Jack and Mary (Orris) Shattuck. Dick is survived by Cindy Lou Shattuck, his best friend and loving wife of 44 years and his “favorite” brother Mark Shattuck.

Also surviving are his son Richard S. Shattuck; three daughters, Lenore (Dan) Ohlmann, Lisa (Jonathan) Witt, and Marcy (Michael) Charvat; his five incredible grandchildren, Noah and Anna Loftus, and Carson, Gavin, and Gabrielle Charvat, whom he loved beyond words. He was so very proud of them and their many accomplishments.

Dick graduated from Plainwell High School, held a degree from Hope College, and retired from The Upjohn Company after more than 38 years of employment. He received the prestigious William E. Upjohn award in 1993. He was a member of the tennis team for both Plainwell High School and Hope College. His passion for tennis continued on for 42 memorable years and every Saturday morning, he joined his Upjohn friends for a round of tennis. Dick’s ability for kindness, compassion, and fairness will live in the hearts of his family forever. In accordance with Dick’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
