Luella Rozeboom ’51 Mulder

Luella Beth Rozeboom was born to Bertha Hennrietta and Gerrit John Rozeboom in Grand Rapids, MI on August 27, 1929. She was the oldest of four children, Luella, Mary Lee, Claryce (deceased) and Jim.

She attended Hope College for three years, but met Edwin Mulder, the love of her life, and husband of 66 years, while spending one year at Central College in Pella, Iowa. Ed and Luella married on June 14, 1952 in Coopersville, MI and moved to Holland where Ed attended Western Theological Seminary and Luella taught elementary school. Ed and Luella subsequently served churches in New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan, and New York until retiring to Holland in 2004.

In addition to being a consummate homemaker, hostess, and musician, Luella taught school for twenty years. At the age of 65, she accepted a job working for Marble Collegiate Church in NYC leading their 200-member seniors group. Ed and Lu thrived during their time in NYC, but were happy to move to Holland where they spent the past fourteen years enjoying the camaraderie of friends, old and new. At Freedom Village, Luella particularly loved singing in the choir.

Luella was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Mulder. She is survived by her brother Jim (Jackie), Mary Lee (James); four children, Tim (Linda), Mary (Jim), Mark (Melissa), Betsy (George); eight grandchildren, Thomas, Blakely (Michael), Samuel, Isaac, Hillary, Maggie, Matthew, and Claire; and four step-grandchildren, Lindsay, Ryan, Kelly and Tracy.
