Janice DeBoer ’70 Currie

Janice Lynn Currie passed away in her home in Grand Rapids, MI on Monday, October 30, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 1, 1948 in Paterson, NJ to John and Florence DeBoer. Janice is survived by her husband, Bill; her four children, Mike (Missy), of Grand Rapids, and their children MacKenzie, Zach, Stephanie, Whitney; Jason, of Aledo, TX, and his children Tucker and Charlie; Ryan (Megan), of Encinitas, CA, and their children Connor, Caitlin, Casey and Cameron; and Courtney Currie-Bianchi (Alex), of Menlo Park, CA, and their children Natalie, Claire and Mia; her brother, John, of Ashville, N.C.; sisters, Linda Clodfelter, of Brielle, N.J., and Patti Sori, of Grand Rapids, MI. Janice put her heart and soul into raising her four children and loving her grandchildren. She loved spending summers at the beach in Grand Haven. An avid sports fan, Janice rarely missed a Forest Hills Central sporting event, especially if her children or grandchildren were participating. She also was an excellent cook, and enjoyed preparing meals for the family. Janice was actively involved with Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, and, along with her husband, recently co-chaired their annual gala. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at Mayflower Congregational Church, 2345 Robinson Rd SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506. The family will receive visitors at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Following the funeral service, there will be a celebration of Janice’s life at Cascade Hills Country Club, 3725 Cascade Rd SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Memorial contributions may be made to the William and Janice Currie Endowed Fund For Excellence at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation, 100 Michigan St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
