Barbara Lowing ’56 Brink

Barbara Jean (Lowing) Brink, 86, of Holland, entered her heavenly home on Thursday, Feb. 08, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Barbara was born October 25, 1931 in Jenison, Michigan to Harold and Doris (DeNef) Lowing. She graduated from Hudsonville High in 1950. Upon graduation she worked for the high school for several years before beginning Hope College in the fall of 1952. Barbara attended two years at Hope before she married Irwin Brink and joined him in Illinois where he was pursuing his graduate studies. She returned to Hope in 1962 to complete a B.A. in English-French with an elementary teaching certificate. Barbara was a member of Third Reformed church serving as a nursery attendant, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and Stephen Minister. She enjoyed spending time with her family, volunteering with various organizations, and accompanying her children on the piano as they performed in recitals. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irwin and sister-in-law Janice Brink. She is survived by her children: Jeanne (Jay) Lindell, Anne Brink, Robert Brink (Karine Renard), and Mary VanKula; grandchildren: Zack (Allie) Lindell, Katie Lindell, Jacob Lindell, and Ian VanKula and brother-in-law, Kenneth Brink. Visitation is Sunday, February 11 from 5-7 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral home, 315 E. 16th St. A memorial service to honor Barbara’s life and faith will be Monday, February 12 at 11am at Third Reformed Church, 111 W. 13th St. in Holland. Rev. Kama Jongerius and Rev. Amanda Dykhouse will officiate. Special thank you to the staff at Freedom Village and Hospice of Holland for the excellent care Barbara receive along her journey.
