William Dykstra ’49

William Dykstra ’49 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, died on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016. He was 89. He had a very quick mind and dry sense of humor.  He had a passion for education which was fueled by great curiosity throughout his life. He was a true entrepreneur in every sense and had a gift of asking relevant questions and bringing together interesting people, ideas, and business opportunities. He loved being involved and actively maintained a business up until his death. He was nationally well known in the antique boating and car circles. If you needed a part, original manual or connection, Bill Dykstra was your ‘go to’ source. He shared his passions with many and his stories could fill a book. He was always his own man and said that the greatest treasure in his life was meeting and marrying Ann McGuiness. He is survived by his children William H., Mary I. ’83 and son in law Donald Novess.

During his career, he developed multiple companies (Dwight Furniture Corp, W. D. Dykstra Group, Burton Norton Company) and he was a highly regarded business consultant and strategist. He received many awards and recognition over the years for outstanding business strategy contributions and design.
