Karen Sterk ’76 as CEO and Betsy
Wackernagel ’74 Bach as board chair led the
charge to raise more than $8.3 million for the
Jeannette Rankin Foundation. Betsy and Karen
were Sigma Sigma Sorority sisters, both first-term
presidents. The Jeannette Rankin Foundation
honors Jeannette Rankin, the first woman in
Congress, elected in 1916. She brought forward
the legislation for the 19th Amendment and
was the only woman to vote on giving women
the vote. The Rankin Foundation’s mission
is transforming futures through education by
providing Scholar Grants to women over the age
of 35, with financial need, nationwide, for postsecondary
education
