Bruce Gillies ’63
Bruce Gillies ’63 celebrated 40 years of
ordained ministry as an Episcopal deacon.
His first assignment was Episcopal chaplain at
Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, New York, where
he served for five years. He performed many
baptisms, especially for newborns who were given
slim chances to live. His next assignment was to
the New York State Department of Corrections
as chaplain. He served as employee and volunteer
for 27 years. He taught literature and psychology
to inmates under the auspices of Medaille
College. Between 2000 and 2011, he served the
Diocese as Archdeacon and transitions officer.
Now living in Florida, he served as deacon at
Annunciation Episcopal Church, Holmes Beach,
Anna Maria Island, and is currently the Deacon
at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in St.
Petersburg, Florida.
