Joyce Hanlon

Rev. Joyce A. Hanlon, age 81, of Jenison, went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 26, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents Everett and Marion Norman.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, Charles B. Hanlon; children Charles C. (Renee) Hanlon, and Janelle Washburne; grandchildren Maxwell (Laura) Washburne, Tyler (fiancee Sarah Galloway) Washburne, Jessica Hanlon, Kelsey (Chris) Pelzer, and Charles D. Hanlon; great-granddaughter Charlotte Olivia Pelzer; and brother, Carl Norman.

Joyce received her B.S. in Nursing (with Honors) from Michigan State University, and her M.S.N. in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Wayne State University. Joyce was a life-long learner, and shared her talents in many positions over the years including Psychiatric and Medical-Surgical Nursing instructor at Gloucester County College in Sewell New Jersey; Psychiatric and Medical-Surgical Nursing Instructor at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center in Grand Rapids; Director of Counseling Services at Hope College in Holland; Consecrated as a Diaconal Minister in the United Methodist Church; founded and developed her own business as Reflections Counseling and Consultations Services which provided psychotherapy to clients; Clinical Nursing instructor for Ferris State University in Big Rapids, in Bachelor of Science, nursing program, at Pine Rest Hospital in Grand Rapids; implemented E.M.D.R. therapy techniques while working with P.T.S.D. clients; and retired in 2001 from her own psychotherapy practice.
